Nalgene BPA Free Tritan Wide Mouth Bottle
There are just so many reasons to drink water! Hydration is essential to the life of our cells, and during times of stress even more so. The admonition to drink plenty of fluids during cold and flu season is actually some of the best advice you can get because extra fluids are needed to cool fevers and your metabolism is ramping up to fight the germs so your liver and kidneys need more help anyway. Drinking more water really can help with losing weight - and increasing your water intake is listed on all the diets I have seen. And of course if you are drinking water you will not be drinking that coloured sugared hard to justify soda pop that so many of us are addicted to if we let ourselves go there. Water helps when we are nauseous - it is just good.
Industry has picked up on this and in the last few decades we have become suckers to the bottled water industry and we are carrying around bottled water bottles constantly, like big babies. I fall into this category, especially as I feel I have to have water to be on the phones at my job. I have been carrying these bottles around for several weeks, but I have been disturbed by it for an equally long time. I know that I am making trash, using valuable petro-chemicals for a selfish cause, and getting water that I am not convinced is any better than the water out of my tap.
So I was really excited to find the Nalgene Tritan Wide Mouth BPA-Free Water bottle and I promptly purchased one to replace my bottles. I chose the orange color, there are thirteen different choices. There are a lot of great features that helped me make my choice: the wide mouth means I can get ice in the bottle as well as water. You can even use it to wash your hands if you would want to. Also, the top is attached with a loop which is essential for me, because I have several other water bottles that I can go longer use because I have lost the top. And I feel more secure knowing that this water bottle is BPA free. BPA aka "Bisphenol A" is nasty stuff indeed. It has been found to leech out of plastic that is made with BPA containing plastic, and It has been associated with Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer and diabetes. There was a big scandal when some baby bottles were found to contain it, and really there should be a scandal because grown-ups use it too.
I really enjoy using the Nalgene Bottle. It is easy to keep clean by just popping it in my dishwasher. And I save so much money! Even using super cheap bottles that I can get at some supermarkets, I will still spend hundreds more on bottled water than tap water. The Nalgene is less than fifteen dollars! And if you really are worried about water quality there are excellent home filtering products for your home tap, but that is for another day. And I think it is cool that I can use it for hot or cold fluids.
In the meanwhile, I am really enjoying my Nalgene. I must confess that the hardest part of using it has been to remember to use it. I am in the ugly habit of buying water bottles, and sometimes I still walk out of the house without it. But I know that this old dog can learn new tricks and the 2014 is the year for the Nalgene for me!
What water bottle you carry may seem to be a totally personal choice, but it is far from that. Today, more than ever our actions will affect our own lives and future generations.I love it that there are so many different colors of these bottles!

If we don't quit making this trash - maybe we should use it constructively.
This is one of the biggest reasons I don't want to carry bottles - I don't want them ending up on Garbage Island.
